We thought we would share the great success this has been so far.
Firstly let’s talk about amazing hair and make up artist to the stars ‘Helen Dowsley’
( http://www.helendowsley.com.au ) Helen has been choosing Penny to be her personal Hair Stylist for many years because Penny ‘simply is the best hairdresser in Sydney‘. Helen was the one who saw the need in make up artists to improve their hair styling skills and suggested Penny help them. Helen wrote this testimonial:
Being a Hair and Makeup artist working on a lot of celebrities I am always being asked if I have work available for others.
The problem is they can be a beautiful makeup artist but have very little experience with hair.
Knowing Penny Martin and her extensive work in the industry I asked her if she would be available to do hair courses for makeup artist.
I explained what is necessary for them to learn, how fast and confident they need to be.
The rest I left to Penny to organize.
I am extremely pleased to say there is now a course that not only is designed for each and every student but that a good friend of mine has been through the course and now rocks with her new ability to work with hair.

Helen shared the first blog with another fabulous Make Up Artist ‘Simone Cozens’
( http://www.simonecozens.com ) who has now done 2 days One on One training with Penny
The training started with Simone showing Penny what she would normally do on a static resource (dolls head).
Penny assessed her skills and then put together an individual education plan so that Simone would be walking away with better techniques, skills, ability and confidence. For Simone, she wanted to improve her blow drying skills. Penny showed her some key techniques:
- the best place to start blow drying
- the best way to section
- how to clip up the hair
- how to smooth the ends
- the most effective way to blow dry for different textures
- how to style a fringe
- the fundamentals of a hair cut and how to enhance it
- age appropriate styling
- how to clip in extensions
- how to increase speed
Simone did some practice on dolls heads and then she progressed onto real people and worked on 3 different live models across the 2 days. Here is a picture of Simone in action:

- I have been doing hair and make up for the past 12 years but never felt completely confident in hair. After chatting with Penny she worked out where my gaps were and targeted my training to that. For me I felt weak in blow drying, after 2 days of training I felt very confident and it was just a matter of practicing.
- Penny is very personable and warm. I felt she was amazing at picking up on the small mistakes, and for me, showing me all the shortcuts that would help the way I do hair.
- I feel I probably went from a 7 to a 9 in skill. Big boost in my confidence. I then wanted to go away and practice before I came back for a lesson again. It’s great to have that flexibility!

Being sympathetic to your work schedules, we know you cant always commit to a long training course.
We are offering Customised One on One Training to meet your personal needs. The training will be designed specifically to give you skills, tips and confidence in any area you have gaps or feel you want to improve. The sessions and time commitments are also coordinated to suit your schedule.
What will I learn?
Whatever you need to learn! What are your weaknesses? Do you want to be better at Blow Drying, Styling for Long Hair, Styling for Short Hair, Up Styles, Mens Hair, Braiding, Applying Extensions, Cutting?
You will also have the opportunity of using KMS/ Goldwell products.
What do I need to bring?
You don’t have to bring anything but you are welcome to bring:
– your own kit/ tools
– someone to be a live model to practice on
– photos of looks you want to learn
– photos of your current clients hair cuts so Penny can give you extra styling ideas to impress them
